Abstract

The aim of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the marginal microleakage of three adhesive systems¦ l) conventional one step system with acid etching, ll) self-etching two steps system, lll) self-etching adhesive one step Fifteen sound premolars were selected and proximal occlusal vertical slot cavities were prepared on the medial and distal surfaces; they were then divided into three groups. After the restorations were done, the samples underwent thermalcycling and immersion in 0,5% methylene blue dye. Finally, the specimen were cut transversally and photographed, and the level of marginal microleakage was evaluated. Croups l and ll presented microleakage reaching at least the enamel-dentin junction, while Croup lll showed dentin microleakage. The Rruskal-Wallis test showed there was no statistical difference between Croups l and ll; but, there were statistical differences when they were compared to Croup lll, which presented inferior results. lt was concluded that none of the three studied systems was capable of completely avoiding microleakage.
