Abstract

This study aimed to seek evidence of validity based on the internal structure and reliability indices of the Emotional Self-Regulation Scale -Adults. To this end, we tested three models (multidimensional, second-order, and bifactor). In addition to the confirmatory factor analysis, we tested analyzes based on the item response theory, as well as the instrument'sreliability indexes were investigated. The sample consisted of 660 subjects, aged between 18 and 71 years (M = 22.83 SD = 7.21). The results indicated that the multidimensional model has the best-fit indices and satisfactory reliability index for the dimensions, which, when evaluated by alpha and omega, ranged from 0.83 to 0.94. We found that the instrument better measures low self-regulation traits. Thus, we can conclude that this study accumulated evidence for the Emotional Self-Regulation Scale –Adultsand that it is adequate for assessing this trait.
