The article presents the issue of the Basic Education teacher´s professional formation and the necessity of reviewing this process. It considers the professional formation as a precondition for the constitution of educational systems, its renovation and also the improvement of its quality. The text also questions the present process of teacher´s formation in the linear logic and in the conception of isolated knowledge. It presents the idea that it is necessary to give the teacher a new conception of Basic Education as a social right to knowledge and culture, different from and broader than the traditional ano, which has been narrow and selective.
