Abstract

This paper aims to identify and analyze the meanings of practice and watching non-professional soccer to people in a club in the city of Piracicaba/SP, participants of a championship. It is common for people to receive incentives for the practice of the sport instead of watching, since often watching is associated with passivity. However, both the practice and watching are ways of subject experience leisure and produce culture. It was performed literature research and field. The practice and watching of non-professional soccer at the club are associated with the construction of values that tension the model of professional game with the recreational game, between the serious and the playfulness, cooperation and competition, pleasure and performance. The subjects that participate in the soccer championship on the club at times are guided by high performance sport values (competition, individualism etc.), which are the same that predominate in modern society, however, such subjects tense these values as they prioritize the sociability, the play along with the other - friends or relatives, be part of a team that mocks professional soccer. Thus we see, cultural, dynamic process, built daily about education through leisure.
