Abstract

This paper describes the functional situation of the first person singular subject pronoun (PPl), in Brazilian Portuguese, in colloquial and spontaneous discourse. I point out data obtained from informal conversations which indicate the major presence of PPl in orallanguage and I also analyse several linguistic factors which could be contributing to its use, even when it seems not to be necessary.
