Abstract

Paleoproterozoic granitoids (~1,7Ga) intrude gneisses and migmatites of the tonalitic-trondjemiticgranodioriticbasement of the Neoproterozoic Araçuaí fold-thrust belt in the Guanhães region (MinasGerais).Previous studies attributed deformation and metamorphism of the country rocks to thePaleoproterozoic Transamazonian Event. The role of the younger Brasiliano Event is not well understoodand different interpretations have been postulated. Post-Transamazonian rocks, recently identified in theregion, are deformed and metamorphosed. The deformation is complex, with a ductil character increasingto east. The associated metamorphism reach the amphibolite facies, with migmatitic remobilization, andgranitogenesis at about 540 Ma. The available data suggest that after the Transamazonian event the Guanhãesregion underwent granitogenesis, deformation, metamorphose in the course of the Neoproterozoic BrasilianoEvent.
