Abstract

The major difficulty faced by professionals today is to find and reconstruct an element comprised of different structures, which also present different optical properties, leading to various effects when exposed to light. The aim of this study, therefore, is to compare the translucency of composite resins using radiometer measures of light passed through tablets made from a given amount of composite resin put between two glass plates, which were pressured until the plastic stop placed between the plates was reached. After the photo-polymerization on both sides of the tablet, its border was worn away until the correct diameter (13mm) was reached for its fitting on the intermediary level of the Demetron radiometer. The averages were submitted to the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and to the Ryan-Einot- Cabriel-Welsch average comparison test, in a 95% dependability level. The composite resin Filtek Supreme (n=15) was the one which showed the highest level of translucency, followed by the resins Z 100 (n=16), Fill Magic (n=13), Z 350 (n=10), Durafill (n=13), Concept (n=10), Solitaire (n=10) and Herculite ERV (n=14). According to the used methodology, it was concluded that the levels of translucency varied from one resin to the other; the highest level was found for the material Filtek Supreme (3M) and the lowest for the composite resin Herculite ERV (Rerr).
