Clinical evaluation to the frequency of oral complications and its relation with the quality of buccal hygiene in pediatric patients submitted to antineoplastic treatment

Abstract

This study it has as objective to evaluate and to identify the presence of decurrent acute oral complications of the antineoplastic treatment beyond on condition that correlating buccal health in 59 pediatrics patients submitted the antineoplastic treatment in the CEONH/HUOC, with age between 0 and 18 years. The clinical aspect of the buccal mucosa was evaluated in weekly intervals, the stream bed, under artificial light, with the aid of language step-Down, of the beginning to the ending of the oncologic treatment. For the clinical evaluation of the mucositis the criterion of acute toxicity of World Health Organization was used (WHO). The buccal health was evaluated in the first consultation, through the visual inspection and was classified as favorable or favorable. Of the 59 patients, 36 (61%) preseated favorable buccal health. Of the oral complications that involved the patients with buccal quality of favorable hygiene, candidiasis corresponded 45.2%, in the patients that they had presented quality of favorable buccal hygiene, candidiasis corresponded 26.1% of the verbal complications. The mucositis also was more frequent in the patients with quality of favorable buccal hygiene, 28.6% of the oral complications. The orientation to the patients and its responsible on the necessity and importance of rigorous a buccal hygiene are indispensable, considering that the buccal health is one of the factors that favor the appearance and increase of the severity of the decurrent acute oral complications of the antineoplastic treatment.
