Abstract

At the opening of the III CBEL, in Campo Grande-MS, the author addresses the central themes of the event - quality of life and social rights - placing them in perspective of the current and future of leisure sciences. Establishing a time line of almost a century, it approaches the trajectory of the study of the theme in different societies, as well as the perspectives that stand for the future. This is the background for addressing the public policies that studied the issue. Concludes by emphasizing that leisure is a central theme when studying the dynamics of modern urban societies.
