Leisure Studies and Geopolitics of Knowledge

This article aims to analyze the theme of leisure in the perspective of geopolitics of knowledge. Whereas the physical space is a political and social space filled with symbolic dimensions, in the global dynamics the Latin Americans scholars occupy the position of receivers/consumers of knowledge about leisure produced in other parts of the world, mainly in European countries and the United States, disseminating them as if the adopted theories and concepts were universal. The knowledge produced in different countries can be useful and necessary to help in the process of thinking leisure in our context, but the knowledge should not be treated as universal, nor be assumed and incorporated in a decontextualized manner and without a critical position.
