The The Leisure Conceptions of Physical Education Teachers in Basic Education in the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia (GO)

Abstract

This study intends to analyze the leisure conceptions and experiences of Physical Education (PE) teachers that work on Basic Education (BE) in the metropolitan region of Goiânia. The conducted study is considered an exploratory research with a qualitative approach. There were interviewed 22 PE teachers that work in the BE in Goiânia’s metropolitan region. They answered a questionnaire with open and closed answer questions. With the collected data, a content analysis was carried out to achieve the proposed objective. On the results, we observed that the majority of the interviewed comprehend leisure as a phenomenon attached to the practice of physical activities and the non-working time. We concluded that the recurring conception among the interviewed is of leisure in its functionalist sense, which states that the role of leisure is to recover, dichotomously, body and mind for the work.
