Embernagra longicauda Strikiland, 1844; Its records in Minas Gerais - Brazil (Aves, Fringillidae)

The genus Embernagra Lesson, 1831 with the species E. platensis and E. longicauda is endemic to South America. E. platensis occurs in South east Brazil ranging from the State of Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul, Uruguay, east Argentina and Paraguay while E. longicauda was known only from its type locality, Morro do Chapeu of Bahia. Since 1971, the Department of Zoology of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) started an ornithological surveying program to the State of Minas Gerais. In this survey, E. longicauda has recorded for eleven new localities distributed along the mountain range of Serra do Espinhaço which crosses the of Minas Gerais from North/South.
