We present first records of 12 bird species for the Serra do Caraça region, located in the southeastern slope of the Espinhaço Range, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. We also provide new data on voucher-specimens from this area, which are deposited in the Coleção Ornitológica do Departamento de Zoologia of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (DZUFMG). Notes on geographic distribution and range expansion are discussed for some species. Four species (Primolius maracana, Thamnophilus torquatus, Elaenia cristata, and Euscarthmus meloryphus) have reached Serra do Caraça region possibly due to deforestation on the foothills.
