Abstract

The dusky-legged guan, Penelope obscura Temminck, 1815, is a threatened bird species in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. In this paper, observations on the reproduction of this species in the southern Espinhaço Range are reported. We found chicks and immatures of P. obscura during the rainy season, between November and January. Based on the development of gonads of two collected specimens, and given that incubation spends 28 days, nesting should occur between October and November. These are the first observations on the breeding of the subspecies P. obscura bronzina in the wild.
