Perception of the RDA for implementation in the libraries of the federal university of minas gerais

Abstract

Information and communication technologies have brought changes in information environments that have contributed to the emergence of new types of documents, formats, supports, content and new ways of accessing and ways to register resources, thus, the new cataloging norm that will replace the AACR2, the RDA. The objective of this study is to diagnose the current reality of perception of library catalogers at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in the face of the new cataloging standard, as well as the general view of the standard, the understanding of changes in the instructions for data description of the resources, awareness of GDR implementation strategies, and preference for methods for training GDR topics. The mixed approach method was adopted and as a data collection technique, interviews (semi-structured) and content analysis to explain and systematize the analyzed content. The preliminary results show that implementation is a long way to go, and that it is done in conjunction with interested entities.
