Os Túlios de Plínio

Marco Túlio Cícero é uma das figuras históricas mais proeminentes de Roma, bem como é a referência maior em Retórica no cenário de língua latina. Contudo, é comum que os estudos sejam anacrônicos e a representação de Cícero, literária ou histórica, seja um reflexo da tendência de determinada escola ou de algum período histórico específico. Desta forma, nosso objetivo neste artigo é demonstrar quem era o grande orador e símbolo da República Romana para outro grande homem de Roma, Plínio, o Jovem, que viveu mais de um século após a morte de Cícero, em outro regime e em um mundo literário muito mais amplo e complexo. Não obstante, focaremos nas diferentes faces de Cícero em Plínio, analisando como tal figura já era muito mais abstrusa na Antiguidade do que se tradicionalmente é concebido.
