Abstract

After Industrial Revolution, the machines gradually replaced the work of the human beings, causing a reduction in working hours, allowing them to enjoy a free time that provided well-being and quality of life. In this context, leisure studies emerge confirming its importance, since their practices are able to guarantee rest, fun and social, intellectual and cultural development. That said, this research focused on São Gonçalo - RJ, aiming to diagnose the leisure offers of this city, establishing a prognosis in favor of its tourist development. For the accomplishment, a descriptive research was used whose main analytical method was the case study. Thus, through a qualitative approach, an investigation was developed to understand the main characteristics of the natural and cultural attractions. From the information collected, a prognosis was established for growing local tourism, highlighting the possibilities for rural, cultural and ecological tourism development. For this, it is necessary to promote public and/or private actions that encourage the improvement of services, equipment and offers linked to these segments.
