Abstract

ABSTRAT: The objective of this article is to point out the changes observed in the objective of people who practice road running. The data presented were collected through an online questionnaire (google docs) and a literature search. We present data on the influence of culture and urbanization on physical activity practices, as well as on the understanding of leisure related to physical and mental health. In the results presented, we can see that there was a significant increase in the number of women participating in road running events. In addition, it was demonstrated that the purpose of this participation is not exclusively focused on the search for better performance results but also on personal, psychological and social issues. It was concluded that performance is no longer the most important part of road running practice. The physical part (aesthetics and health) and the psychological part are the most relevant for amateur runners to continue practicing road running and participating in competitions.
