Abstract

This article seeks to analyze public management policies for leisure that affect the Workers’ Square in the city of Breves, in the Amazon, located in the archipelago of Marajó, in order to understand the social dynamics of leisure in this space, analyze popular participation in the management and the dynamic between government and local society. To achieve the objectives were conducted bibliographic and documents studies, as well as semi-structured interviews with representatives of the following social groups: municipal managers; formal and informal workers of the square; people living around the square; and patrons and users of the square. They interviewed a total of 22 social social agents from non-probability sampling for convenience. It was found the structure and functional recent destinations the square were not widely discussed with society Breves, being neglected this action a series of demands that societies. Still, the Worker Square configured as important urban spaces city leisure, with a set of actions developed by both the municipal government and by partner institutions in its public administration.
