Abstract

Since an introductory debate on the need to consider the history of the sport as a history of entertainment, as well as the adjustment of the concepts used in our researches in function of the peculiarities of the object and the temporal and spatial settings, this article aim to discuss the conformation of sports as a entertainment in 19th century Rio de Janeiro.
