Abstract

Sporting mega-events were not unison actions in our country. In view of this diverse context our goal was to understand why people volunteer for mega-events. The methodology was the application of 345 questionnaires to the volunteers of the Football World Cup in Belo Horizonte and the analysis of data from Bardin (1999). We conclude that volunteering is a process socially constructed and can be seeing in several ways by the individuals. We realized on this text people who made a move contrary to volunteering in the World Cup and among those volunteers, the most frequent reasons were pleased by the activity and the improvement of the curriculum. Among the social movements influencers voluntary process in mega-events, we have found two actions: The “Year of the Volunteer” established as an action of the UN and the Higher Education Internationalization in Brazil. These movements can help to understand why people build relationships of interest and pleasure in volunteering at sporting mega-events.
