INTERSECTIONS BETWEEN LEISURE AND EVERYDAY LIFE IN THE QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITY OF CURTUME IN JENIPAPO DE MINAS - MG

The practice life and everything that surrounds it are the two main elements in occupational therapists’ practice. Starting on this point, this paper has as mainly objective to understand how the activity of compose and sing verses is one of the most important characteristics in women who lives in Quilombola Community of Curtume in Jenipapo de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brazil. For this paper, has been used a methodology with ethnographic characteristics, using the narrative method. It was observed that through the act of ‘creating and playing’ verses, the tradition of the Curtume Quilombo tells its story, showcases its culture to the world, and, somehow, keeps it alive. Verses emerge in different daily life activities. Playing verses, although a cultural activity of the quilombo, also holds significant power in confronting different life difficulties, whether they are material or social in nature.
