TOURISM AND CULTURAL EVENTS IN THE QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITY OF SOBRADO/RN – BRASIL

Abstract

The article presented here has as main objective to investigate how cultural events can contribute to the strengthening of community-based tourism in the quilombola community of Sobrado / RN, and as specific objectives: to identify cultural expressions developed in that quilombo; to verify the existing social organization forms and to investigate the performance of the city government in the community. To this end, a qualitative descriptive approach was used. The analysis of the results was made from interviews with the community leader and the mayor. The results of this research showed that the main cultural events are the dance Maneiro Pau, cordel literature and handicrafts, and these expressions relate everyday life and enrich local traditions. Moreover, it was found out that the community regarding the forms of social organization are produced and commercialized arrangements by the community and the local public administration acts little for this quilombola. Due to the above exposed, it is concluded that these manifestations represent not only cultural heritage but also common practices of african ancestry, therefore showing their ethnicity, however, a greater involvement is required and a whole among the actors involved, be it arising from the community, the public administration or even non-governmental institutions and partnerships, given the fact that the TBC is supplied from the joint involvement of social actors and not only of the community involved.
