Abstract

This study is part of the research project Brazilian Leisure and it intends to identify and analyze how Brazilian women define leisure, how they spend/wish to spend their free time, and what barriers keep them from accomplishing it. Considering age group, formal education, race/color, marital status, and social class, a qualitative analysis of the quantitative data was completed. To achieve this, a description and analysis of the results was used to search for other researches and theoretical linkages that could be used for comparison. The data shows that women’s free time is significantly reduced when they are the only person responsible for the household errands. In addition, and perhaps consequently, there is a large disparity between what women want to perform in their free time and what they actually accomplish.
