Abstract

For years, leisure practices that the Church did not allow were considered unlawful, and there could be earthly and spiritual punishments. Nowadays, some authors say that the leisure vs. religion relationship may have three possibilities. Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze the recreational activities performed in religious events in the city of Paranavaí-PR. For that, an observation was made of the recreational activities carried out in religious events in the city of Paranavaí-PR, and a questionnaire was also applied, through the internet, to the participants of the events. After analyzing the data, it was possible to verify that the majority of the participants are female (61.8%), and that the main reasons to participate are the family, friends and the desire to be closer to the presence of God. The most common activities were moments of animation with songs and dances, theaters and cooperative activities for a better understanding of aspects taught by religion, socialization and distraction for the moments that would follow. It was also observed that few of the animators responsible for the activities have some type of training in this area, thus opening a gap so that Physical Education professionals can also be acting within the religious environment and not only in schools and academies. It follows then that there is a relationship between leisure and religion, and that this can be beneficial to both camps.
