Atuação de fatores estilísticos na variação entre as formas de tratamento de segunda pessoa em uma comunidade de fala valenciana / Stylistic factors in the variation of the performance of treatment forms of the second person in a Valencian speaking community

Abstract

Resumo: Neste artigo, analisamos a atuação de fatores estilísticos na variação entre as formas de tratamento de segunda pessoa, tú e usted, em 36 entrevistas extraídas do corpus PRESEVAL (Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de Valencia). As 1.286 ocorrências coletadas, sendo 1.185 relativas à variante tú e 101 à variante usted, foram analisadas estatisticamente no programa Goldvarb (2005). Serviram-nos, como embasamento teórico para tratar da questão da variação estilística, três diferentes abordagens que aportam uma visão multidimensional desse tipo de fenômeno (LABOV, 2001, 2008; BELL, 1984; ECKERT, 2001; SCHILLING-ESTES 2002). No que tange às variáveis estilísticas analisadas, obtivemos os seguintes resultados: (i) os dados evidenciaram um propenso uso de tú nos estilos expositivos e argumentativos (0.890 e 0.751, respectivamente); (ii) a presença da variável assuntos menos complexos favorece a ocorrência da variante  tú, como evidencia o peso relativo atribuído (0.639); (iii) os dados indicam uma porcentagem relativamente alta de uso da variante tú nos três fatores, encabeçada pela proximidade alta (95.1%). Ao observamos a aplicação da variante usted em nossos dados, essa apareceu de forma mais saliente (59 ocorrências) entre os indivíduos caracterizados por uma relação de distanciamento com o entrevistador, frente aos de proximidade intermediária (38 ocorrências) e alta (4 ocorrências), respectivamente.

Abstract: In this paper, we analyze the performance of stylistic factors in the variation of treatment forms of the second person, tú and usted, in 36 questionnaires take from thecorpus PRESEVAL (Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de Valencia). The 1.286 occurrences collected, with 1.185 related to the variant tu, and 101 to usted, were statistically analyzed by Goldvarb Program (2005). As theoretical background to address the question of stylistic variation, three different approaches were taken to show a multidimensional view of this phenomenon (LABOV, 2001, 2008; BELL, 1984; ECKERT, 2001; SCHILLING-ESTES, 2002). Concerning the stylistic variables analyzed, we have got the following results: (i) the data showed an inclined use of tú in the expository and argumentative styles (0.890 e 0.751, respectively); (ii) the presence of the variable less complex subjects favors the occurrence of the variant tú, as evidenced by the relative attributed weight (0.639); (iii) the data have showed a relatively high percentage of the use of the variant tú in the three factors, headed by high proximity (95.1%). By observing the use of the variant usted in our data, it has appeared more prominently (59 occurrences) among subjects characterized by a relation distance with the interviewer, compared to those of intermediate (59 occurrences), and high (4 occurrences) proximity respectively.
