A Reflection about General Linguistics and the Vocal Aspect

In this article, with the aim of reinforcing that the vocal aspect is a phenomenon that should interest linguists in any area of the linguistic field, we propose a reflection on the vocal aspect for general linguistics. In this way, firstly, we present our epistemological principle and then our linguistic and theoretical point of view. After clarifying our theoretical basis, which is guided by Émile Benveniste’s theory of language and his enunciative perspective, we briefly discuss the lack of definition of our linguistic field. Next, we talk about the mutism that exists in studies of the vocal aspect in this field due to the almost total absence of research on this phenomenon. From a Benvenistian enunciative point of view, then, we briefly outline our look at the vocal aspect. Finally, in order to contribute to further studies on the vocal aspect, we briefly summarize other works that investigate the vocal aspect as a way of encouraging other representative linguistic areas in the country to also consider this aspect as a research interest.
