Call for papers - issue 2, 2025 (NARRATIVES OF TESTIMONIAL NATURE AS DISCOURSES OF RESISTANCE)
Conceiving resistance, in a broad sense, as the ability to question, to challenge or to oppose certain gestures or discourses perceived as oppressive or unjust, this dossier aims to bring together researchers whose works deal with narrative texts - in different domains (literary, media, political, legal etc.), in various genres (life stories, other (auto)biographical genres, novels, comics etc.) and supports (oral and written texts, iconic or audiovisual texts etc.) - that function as (counter)discourses of resistance. In this sense, narration, as a way of organizing discourse, maintains a privileged relationship with the temporal dimension and with human action, at the same time it implies tension between (effects of) reality and (effects of) fiction (Delory-Momberger 2016; Charaudeau 2019). For the present proposal, it is assumed that such texts can be traversed, to a greater or lesser degree, by testimonial slant, thus implying subjects who recover, in the present of enunciation, marks of a past episode that they went through or witnessed, thus placing them as guarantors of what is said. Working as “underground memories” (Pollak, 1989), such sayings contribute not only to destabilize and question the official memory, but also to counteract denialism (forgetting/erasing the past), silencing, social invisibility and the stereotypes attributed to certain vulnerable groups.
Therefore, the dossier welcomes articles in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish that develop, from discursive theoretical-methodological approaches, reflections and/or analyses of narratives of testimonial nature, thought of as a possibility of escape from the “site of otherness” (Seligmann-Silva, 2023), based on a “disorganization of speech” (Orlandi, 2004), in which subjects resist the “framings” (Pollak, 1989) imposed on them by the current hegemonic discourse. Three axes, among others, are possible and not mutually exclusive:
1) analysis of verbal, non-verbal or syncretic (multimodal) texts, enacted by subjects, in different contexts, such as survivors of the Shoah and other genocides; victims of Latin American dictatorships; homeless people, migrants, indigenous peoples, members of the LGBTQIAP+ community, among others;
2) reflection on linguistic, semiotic, ideological, social and/or psychoanalytical aspects that allow us to identify and describe the form(s) of resistance undertaken by these (counter)discourses, as well as their effects of meaning;
3) apprehension of the ethos of the resistant enunciator/narrator, considering his fundamental role as “guarantor of the discourse” (Amossy, 2004).
