Abstract

Given that the overall objective is to analyze the administrative apparatus in light of philosophy of technology, the essay presents, firstly, an argument that situates both Michel Foucault's thought within the framework of philosophy of technology and the historical evidence that allows us to date the moment when Foucault explains the technological conception of power in contrast to the legal conception emanating from law; secondly, the ethnological observations of Pierre Clastres, which identify the technological functioning of stateless societies, as well as the conditions for the emergence of the administrative apparatus and bureaucracy; thirdly, the clarification of the criteria of the technological conception of power proposed by Foucault, in order to analyze the exercise of power amalgamated with different apparatuses of power in modern societies; and fourthly, David Farmer's critiques of the motive of efficiency linked to public administration, bureaucracy, and sovereignty. This analysis concludes that the rejection of the State, the legal conception of power, and the motive of efficiency in public administration could encourage other forms of government.
