Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the inorganic content in mass and volume of twelve direct and indirect composite resins. Five cylindrical test samples were made with 5x3 mm of each material. They were activated for 40 seconds and weighed in an analytic scale (Sartorius) while dry; and then, immerged in distilled water. After the elimination of the organic matrix in an electric oven at 700ºC for 3 hours, they were weighed and stored in distilled water for 7 days for a new measurement in immersion. The content per mass was calculated based on the composite´s dry masses and inorganic residues. The volume content was based on the Beginning of Arquimedes. The percentage results in mass and volume were¦ Alert (84 and 71%), Z-350 (79 and 63%), Clacier (78 and 63%), Surefill (77 and 56%), Esterneomega Composite LC (74 and 51%), Point 4 (71 and 66%), Vitalescense (70 and 55%) and A-100 (68 and 43%), Cesead ll (83 and 79%), Targis (73 and 58%), Artglass (68 and 53%) and Solidex (53 and 40%). The direct and indirect composite resins presented a percentage of inorganic particles of 68 to 84% (mass) and 43 to 71% (volume).
