Frequência e fatores associados à visita ao dentista por escolares brasileiros durante a pandemia de Covid-19

Objetivo: Este trabalho teve por objetivo investigar a influência do medo da COVID-19 e de condições bucais na frequência de visita ao dentista por escolares brasileiros durante o isolamento social da pandemia.
Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo epidemiológico transversal com uma amostra de 149 crianças e adolescentes com idade entre 8 e 16 anos oriundas de uma escola pública da cidade de Maravilhas, Minas Gerais, Brasil. A coleta de dados ocorreu através de questionários aplicados por telefone, no qual foram obtidas informações acerca das características da criança, presença de dor de dente, traumatismo dentário, possível bruxismo do sono e em vigília, escovação dentária e visita ao dentista. O medo da COVID-19 foi aferido através da versão brasileira do The Fear COVID-19 Scale. Os dados foram digitados e organizados no software Statistical Package for the Social Science 21.0. A análise de dados incluiu análise descritiva, regressão de Poisson univariada e múltipla (IC 95%; p < 0,05).
Resultados: A frequência de visita dos escolares ao dentista durante a pandemia foi de 34,2% (n = 51). Crianças e adolescentes cujos pais/responsáveis relataram muito medo da COVID-19 (RP: 0,508; IC 95%: 0,320- 0,808; p = 0,004) apresentaram menor frequência de visita ao dentista. Por outro lado, crianças e adolescentes com dor de dente (RP: 2,453; IC 95%: 1,660 - 3,626; p < 0,001) e com possível bruxismo em vigília (RP: 1,604; IC 95%: 1,019 - 2,526; p = 0,041) apresentaram maior procura pelo cirurgião dentista. Não houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre as demais variáveis do estudo e a visita ao dentista.
Conclusão: Conclui-se que crianças e adolescentes com presença de dor de dente e possível bruxismo em vigília foram mais propensas a visitar o cirurgião-dentista. Por outro lado, os pais/responsáveis que relataram muito medo da COVID-19 foram mais propensos à não levar seus filhos ao cirurgião-dentista.
