Sjögren syndrome is an autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disease, which is often accompanied by more systemic symptoms and which commonly affects the exocrine glands, mainly the lacrimal and salivary glands, in turn causing characteristic functional damage. This condition is more prevalent in middle-aged and female patients. The disease presents a wide range of clinical manifestations and can be divided into primary and secondary forms. The primary is the most classic form, characterized by symptoms of dryness in the eyes (xerophthalmia) and mouth (xerostomia). The secondary form presents the same symptoms associated with other autoimmune diseases of the connective tissue, such as sclerodemia, reumathoid arthritis, or systemic lupus erythematosus. The purpose of the present paper is to review the literature so as to obtain information for a case report on a patient with Secondary Sjögren Syndrome, with an eight-year clinical history, who sought out Bucco- Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology services for specific dental evaluation and treatment.
