NASCIMENTO E QUEDA DO LEVIATÃ: DA CONGRUÊNCIA ENTRE ESTADO MODERNO, CRISE E DEMOCRACIA

Resumo

RESUMO: O objetivo do presente artigo é reconstruir a forma usual de relato acerca da transição moderna, considerando o Estado como magnum opus do projeto moderno. Tal reconstrução se dará em dois momentos. Primeiramente, analisar-se-á as diversas possibilidades semânticas que se associam ao principal símbolo do Estado – o Leviatã –, a partir da análise feita pelo publicista alemão Carl Schmitt em sua obra O Leviatã na Teoria do Estado de Thomas Hobbes, para, posteriormente, dada a escolha feita pelo filósofo de Malmesbury, compreender quais são as consequências dessa escolha, tanto no âmbito da história das ideias quanto para a relação entre Estado e sociedade, tendo como referencial a obra Crítica e Crise de Reinhart Koselleck. Ao final, seguindo o pensamento político de Claude Lefort, tentar-se-á demonstrar que o pensamento hobbesiano contem em si os pressupostos do regime democrático.

ABSTRACT: The present article aims to reconstruct the usual form of the description from the modern transition, considering the state as the magnum opus of the modern project. This reconstruction will be developed in two different moments. First, it will be analyzed the various semantic possibilities related to the main symbol of the State – the Leviathan -, based on Carl Schmitt’s essay The Leviathan in the State Theory of Thomas Hobbes and then, given the choice made by Hobbes, the consequences of this act will be examined, in what concerns the History of Ideas and the concrete relationship between State and Society. The second moment is based on Reinhart Koselleck’s book Critique and Crisis. Finally, following the political thought of Claude Lefort, it will be tried to demonstrate that Hobbes’ thought contains in itself the premises of the democratic regime.
