The article aims discuss the concept of school shape, through a social and historical approach, focusing the constitution of primary school in France. It questions the idea of a schooling model. To do so, it analysis oral and written societies, relating their knowledge to their exercise of power. Finally, the article claims that if the school is at a turning point it’s not because its end is close, but because the school shape had spread all over the social institutions.
