Abstract

The dissertation that originated this article deals with the occupation in Alta Sorocabana, verifying the formation of urban centers, from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, with a focus on Presidente Prudente; for this, a collection was created with the registration of real estate, books, laws, maps, newspapers and photographs. The foundation of the city was based on the duality of two lay assets divided by the railway, Vila Goulart and Vila Marcondes. It is directly linked to the arrival of EF Sorocabana in 1919, the second station was opened in 1926 and the third in 1944. It is well known that the railroads helped to define São Paulo's urban occupation, the purpose of this article being to prove the social importance, economic and geographic aspect of the railroad and its influence on the urban landscape of the Capital of Alta Sorocabana, based on the documentary collection, in addition to showing the use of the station today.
