Abstract

This article is derived from a survey by students of the Professional Master's Degree in Preservation of Cultural Heritage, from the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), whose theme proposes a discussion on the use of 3D digital reconstitution of missing or ruined goods ( when there are only traces of what they once were) as a tool for the preservation of cultural heritage, combined with legal protection instruments, expanding the possibilities of society's access to knowledge about these assets. As a practical application of the tools, the digital reconstruction of the ruins of a fortification of Fernando de Noronha / PE will be presented, discussing the preservation of history / memory, through the rescue of its image, and dialoguing with the understandings of authenticity and scientific rigor of the Document of Nara and the London Charter, highlighting the concept of authenticity at risk, the theme of ICOMOS BRASIL 2019, when talking about post-disaster reconstruction. Thus, aiming to expand communication and access to information on Brazilian cultural heritage practices, we seek to discuss the innovative and fundamental role of digital tools in preservation and the importance of transparency and documentation of sources to guarantee intellectual integrity in digital reconstitution.
