Abstract

The present work presents the results of the research “Panorama do ensino de conservação nos cursos de graduação de Arquitetura e Urbanismo do Brasil” (The conservation training panorama in the Architecture and Urbanism undergraduate courses in Brazil) developed in the period from 2013 to 2015, with the support of the Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), which monitored how conservation was implemented in undergraduate Architecture and Urbanism courses in Brazil. It was especially evaluated whether the pedagogical proposals and teaching plans met the conceptual and methodological parameters defined in the field of conservation. It was based on the respective specialized literature with particular emphasis on the parameters of the Training Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (CIF-ICOMOS), which intends to implement a worldwide network discussion of the subject at the university level. The common points that demanded revisions and improvements were identified, respecting the particularities of the architectural and urban characteristics nature of the local contexts. Through this investigation, a partial and momentary improvement in conservation was achieved, in this distinct case, in the training of architects and urban planners in the practice of conservation of immovable cultural heritage (mainly buildings and urban areas), which will imply a contribution from the review of parameters conservation policies in general, notably the Brazilian context, which, in turn, ratified the validity of the current state of the art in the area of knowledge in question.

The first version of this article was presented at the 1st Scientific Symposium of ICOMOS Brasil in 2017. The present edition incorporates the comments made in that event and reviews, updates and develops the data previously presented.
