The present paper starts from the assumption that, although progressive transformations which have taken place in the rural space, besides generating various discussions and a large number of solutions, made it possible to evolve in the understanding of the rural per se, there is a recognition that rural is conditioned by a representation based on the urban existence. Thus theoretical and conceptual elements that constitute the rural category are analysed from a space-time approach, aiming at the understanding of the various discussions established about these two worlds within different perspectives, being them essencially geographical or not. As a consequence of this theoretical dialectics, a discussion about the rural based on the importance of its renovation up to the urderstanding of the concept of rurality is proposed, in order to dismystify the physical or imaginary frontiers that dissociate these two nowadays quite entwined universes.
