COOPERATION, COMPETITION AND THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS
ON THE PROHIBITION OF FACTIONS IN ROUSSEAU

This text intends to discuss the famous restriction imposed on partial associations in Social Contract, Book II, Chapter III. It is sugested that this prohibition can be fruitfully considered in the light of the specificities of the dynamics of cooperation/competition between groups and its effects on the legislative process and, by extension, on social cohesion.
