ESSENCIALISMO MEREOLÓGICO, CORPOS E PESSOAS

A ideia de reduzir o discurso sobre corpos ao discurso sobre agregados é motivada por meio de uma série de problemas metafísicos envolvendo a noção de corpo. Em seguida, duas estratégias de redução são apresentadas. Na primeira, cada corpo é identificado a uma construção lógica envolvendo mundos possíveis e instante do tempo. Na segunda, corpos são tratados como ficções lógicas. A viabilidade de ambas as estratégias é defendida. Embora uma decisão sobre qual das duas é preferível não seja tomada, um aspecto relevante para a comparação é salientado: a segunda abordagem conduz a uma encruzilhada desagradável quanto à natureza das pessoas.
