Abstract

Artificial intelligence and its automatic and autonomous systems have been presenting a significant number of publications, especially in recent times, as they are increasingly present in the daily lives of individuals, directly or indirectly. Therefore, the objective is to analyze open access scientific articles on artificial intelligence, assessing their academic impact by using bibliometric citation indicators and their social impact, through altmetry. 5,043 national and international articles published between 2012 and 2018 were analyzed, with the metadata and data on citations retrieved on the Dimensions platform and the online attention data obtained on Altmetric.com, 32,585 citations were raised in other publications and 58,292 mentions of articles in different sources on the Social Web. The use of altmetry as a complement to bibliometry allows to expand the scope of analyzes of the academic and social impact of scientific productions.
