Abstract

The present article intends to rescue the historical process of the Henry Walter Bates Library, from the Mamirauá Institute for Sustainable Development – ​​IDSM, telling how the formation of its bibliographic collection began; passing through the growth of the scientific production of the Institute's researchers during these more than twenty years of history. It identifies the target audience and the services offered to its users, such as access to information and the use of the Library's space. It emphasizes the contribution and social impact of the Library for the residents of the region, working on the issue of citizenship and belonging to the local community. And finally, it highlights the historical memory of the Institute and its importance in the Amazonian regional scenario, consolidating itself in the promotion of scientific research on biodiversity, management and conservation of natural resources in a participatory and sustainable way.
