Abstract

The essay proposes, based on a classical reception of myths, a theoretical and poetic path about the Muses and the Sirens as literary compositional principles. Based on academic literature on such figures, the work also links the figure of Sirens to Queer Theory. The writing is performative, with the intention of incorporating the contents of the work into its form. The Siren is presented as an unruly Muse, having parallels with the goddesses of art, but differentiating herself through her unrestricted singing, in which there is no order and forgetfulness. Its subversiveness is thus associated with uncanniness, with queerness, in a reflection that reconciles the monstrosity of the Sirens with the dissidence of gender and sexuality. Like an impossible song, the Sirens’ song is incorporated by the Muses, who mediate its representation.
