Divinos ritos e “encantamento puro”: palavras e poder na Epopeia Babilônia da criação - Enūma Eliš

Resumo

Recriar a "vertigem do tempo" (Brandão, 2017) experimentada na leitura do Enūma Eliš (épico babilônico da criação) como vislumbre e fruição do passado por meio da contextualização linguística (Skinner, 2002) é o processo pelo qual este artigo busca compreender o "poder encantador" das palavras na Antiga Babilônia. Inspirado nas noções Foucaultianas de Discurso, Poder e Instituição como autorreferenciais e constitutivos (Foucault, 1999), o ensaio propõe a leitura do mito fundacional babilônico em duas modalidades: o poema supracitado e o Festival de Ãkitu, atentando para a escolha e caracterização dos heróis e locus de poder ali retratados como indicativos do(s) substrato(s) institucional(ais) (poderes) que os sustentavam – e vice-versa. Nesse processo, será destacada a relação complementar entre Estado e Templo no exercício do poder e da autoridade, e também a discreta preeminência sacerdotal que transparece de maneira auto-celebratória no Enūma Eliš.
