Abstract

Anthony Gidde's conception of information in modernity is a valuable tool to the evaluation of information. The tension between user-centered versus system-centered approaches to information evaluation is also particularly relevant for this study. An analysis of this tension leads to the identification of issues on the potential use of each of these two ways of considering it as an input to research and practice in information science. The suggestion is that the two approaches be worked out towards the construction of a specific theoretical framework to be applied in information work.
