THE LITERARY SOCIETY OF SÃO BENTO – A Reading Space on the Mountain Range of Santa Catarina North Tableland

Abstract

The text presents the research results that aimed to answer in which way São Bento do Sul community, conformed a reading institution. It is about a work based on the Cultural History approach considering authors such as Roger Chartier, Sandra Pesavento, among others. As study source, it was analyzed institutional documents, the press (newspaper) and oral reporting. The printed sources analyzed show little visibility of the Society, however, the oral sources (as the treasurer and librarian) reveled the tenacity of different director boards making efforts on the local community to keep the doors open for the future of this reading institution of the North Tableland of Santa Catarina State.
