Abstract

Taking into consideration all the efforts exerted by the Information National Network for Communication (PORTCOM), so as to systematize and bring more agility to the field of information in communication, this study basically sought to map out the diagnostics of collections, especially from public and private universities in the North-Eastern Region (NE), Brazil. Basically following those methodological procedures established by the Coordination of PORTCOM, during March and April 2000, questionnaires were applied to 19 courses of Communication in all nine states of the Region. The main goal was to collect data regarding identification; administrative structures; services and products. Only a total of 12 (63.16%) of the potential institutional research participants, actually returned the completed research instrument.
