Research in information science; an analysis of CNPq funded research
Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of research funded by CNPq, in the area of information science, from 1984 to 1993. The objective is to identify the general characteristics of the research in this area: the main research institutions, researcher characteristics, research topics and methodology used. The study showed that few research projects were carried out in that period. The studies are scattered in different topics in library and information science. This fragmentation was a main finding. Empirical research strategies were employed in the majority of the studies. The results obtained are compared to similar studies carried out overseas, such as Jarvelin and Vakkari.Downloads
