Sources of specialized information: a research based didactic-approach at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil

Abstract

The article presents a research bsed approach to teaching used in the course on Sources of Specialized Information offered at the Library School of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), Brazil, during the first semester of 1997. The paper describes the development of the "Catálogo coletivo de fontes bibliográficas especializadas do Sistema de Bibliotecas da UFPR" (Union catalogue of specialized bibliographic sources of the Library System of the UFPR), published in 1998, by the University Press of this Institution. It shows an interesting interdisciplinary endeavor, where students were in contact with professors of the course, faculty involved in the "Production of bibliographical tools project, librarians of the Library System, and people engaged in the publishing business. Moreover; this method of teaching promoted the students´ interest in scientific research.
