Technology: decisive factor in the coming of the information society?

Abstract

Several authors have writte-about the information society - denomination used by some to characterize social organization in the beginning of the 20th century. The article makes a revision of the subject according to Daniel Bell, Frank Webster, Manuel Catells and Krishan Kumar and focuses the paper on information, especially on the role of technology in such social change processes.
